Analyst ReportAzure Migrate Adds File Migration Program, with Limits
- The File Migration Program for Azure Migrate offers tools and support to organizations migrating large stores of file data to Azure.
- The program provides ISV software, onboarding, and limited support resources from Azure partners for customer-driven migrations at no additional cost.
- Customers may need to pay for additional ISV support once they understand the full scope of a large data migration.
The File Migration Program for Azure Migrate gives organizations access to third-party software solutions for migrating large stores of file data, preferably over 50TB, to Azure. However, the program does not include assessment tools and requires organizations to perform their own assessment, as well as configure migration software and drive their own migration. It will be of most use for organizations that already have engaged sufficient technical expertise but could benefit from no-cost access to Microsoft partner solutions.
Azure Migrate Overview
Azure Migrate is a service that helps organizations inventory, assess, and migrate VMs and SQL Server environments to Azure, as well as tools to migrate ASP.NET applications and Java Web apps to Azure-hosted services. In addition to Microsoft’s tools for assessing and migrating workloads, Azure Migrate offers access to ISV tools that have been integrated with the service. ISV tools can provide capabilities not currently offered by Microsoft’s tools, such as assessment of physical servers and workloads hosted on other public clouds for migration to Azure. For example, a third-party tool might offer specific features for migrating on-premises virtual desktop infrastructure to the hosted Azure Virtual Desktop service.
