Azure Migrate (in preview) is a managed service that helps customers inventory and assess on-premises VMware VMs for migration to Azure. The service could be useful for customers in the early stages of planning or exploring an Azure migration and can help estimate some costs and identify some roadblocks. However, Azure Migrate only analyzes VMs and does not provide migration services, directing customers to tools like Azure Site Recovery and Azure Database Migration for the actual migration.

Provides Discovery and Assessment

Azure Migrate is a discovery and assessment tool hosted in Azure that can analyze on-premises VMware environments, discover VMs, determine their readiness for migration to Azure, and provide sizing and cost estimates for the VMs to be migrated. The service supports Windows and Linux-based VMs managed by VMware vCenter Server version 5.5, 6.0, or 6.5.
