  • Azure Monitor can help respond to outages and address performance bottlenecks with early warning alerts and health data.
  • New options for monitoring VMs, in preview, provide more in-depth data than currently offered.
  • A new pricing model for Log Analytics could reduce costs for organizations that consistently ingest large amounts of data.
  • Other updates to the service expand the sources that can be monitored and provide availability in more Azure regions.

Azure Monitor is an Azure service that offers a central method for organizations to gather operational data from a range of Azure and on-premises resources to inform administrators about resource performance, health, and operational status, and to help make operational decisions.

Service Overview

Monitor gathers information at multiple layers within Azure, including infrastructure, services, and deployed resources, such as an Azure VM, or a database within the Azure SQL Database service, and select on-premises resources. Monitor provides central data storage (leveraging Log Analytics), analysis of metrics (such as system performance), and alerts, notifications, and triggers based on queries performed by Monitor (such as app-based notifications and texts).
