The Azure API Management service allows customers to publish information about their Web service APIs, control API usage, and capture usage statistics. For example, a health insurance company might use Azure API Management to publish and manage a Web service API that delivers provider information to its corporate customers. The service can help customers organize the presentation of and promote the use of Web service APIs, and it could reduce support efforts for the APIs. However, monetizing API usage requires custom code development.

Manual Effort to Publish APIs Reduced

Organizations commonly implement Web-based APIs to back-end services to provide access to functionality and data to customers, partners, and internal development teams. For example, a manufacturer might provide a Web service API for reporting current inventory levels to its suppliers, or an IT staff might develop Web service APIs to the organization’s sales data for line-of-business applications in internal departments.
