Azure Resource Graph Powers Deployment Query Tools

• Azure Resource Graph is a free offering used to query Azure deployments for purposes such as inventorying, configuration governance and cleanup, and change review.
• The capabilities can help with management of large Azure deployments.

Azure Resource Graph (ARG) is built in to Azure subscriptions. It powers several Azure portal tools and other Azure management services, and it can be accessed programmatically to build custom applications. It enables more complex and better performing deployment queries than can be executed with Azure Resource Manager, the underlying Azure deployment framework. ARG is one of several Azure services used for managing Azure deployments; others include Cost Management, Monitor, and Policy.

Resource Graph More Powerful than Resource Manager

Managing Azure deployments is largely dependent on configuring Azure resource properties correctly and consistently. Azure resources are deployed instances of services, such as VMs, Web apps, and databases. Resources are created within an Azure subscription and are usually organized in resource groups. Azure Resource Manager, the deployment and management framework that powers the Azure portal, command-line tools, and APIs, does not provide capabilities to comprehensively and efficiently query resource property values across different resource types and multiple subscriptions.
