BackOffice Server 2000, scheduled to ship at the end of the year, updates the BackOffice Server suite with many major upgrades and improved management features. Most significantly, administrators no longer need to cram all components on a single server, but can run the components of a single copy of the suite on up to three servers, potentially making it more reliable, flexible, and cost effective, especially in departments and branch offices.

What’s in BackOffice Server 2000

The BackOffice Server line bundles major Microsoft server applications into a single, attractively-priced suite. BackOffice Server 2000 includes the following components:

  • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1
  • Exchange 2000 Standard Edition
  • SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition
  • Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (the next version of Microsoft Proxy Server)
  • Host Integration Server 2000 (the next version of SNA Server)
  • Systems Management Server 2.0

Aside from the benefits gained by moving to the 2000 versions of BackOffice’s major components, customers will benefit particularly from BackOffice 2000’s new administrative features in four areas.
