SharePoint 2013 and the SharePoint Online service in Office 365 enable mobile users to connect to SharePoint, analyze business intelligence (BI) data, keep up to date on documents, and receive updates from collaborators without a PC. These changes can help an organization’s mobile workers make the most of an investment in SharePoint. However, many features are available solely to Office 365 subscribers or require premium licenses, and not all features work with all types of mobile devices.

Mobile Support Varies for Documents, Social, and BI

SharePoint 2013 is a Web application platform, as well as a suite of applications built on the platform for functions such as team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, content management, and BI. Microsoft hosts SharePoint for organizations in its SharePoint Online service, commonly sold in the Office 365 suite of Microsoft-hosted services, which also includes Exchange Online and Lync Online.
