Analyst ReportCentro to Integrate Midsize Platform
The discounted bundle of Windows Server System products targeting midsize businesses, first introduced in July 2005, will be enhanced in the future with integrated setup and improved management and security. The integrated product, designed to meet the IT infrastructure needs of midsize businesses, will not be available until some time after Longhorn Server is released in 2007. It was announced at the Sept. 2005 Microsoft Business Summit and given the code name “Centro.”
Specific product features and pricing details are not available, but Microsoft announced that Centro will be built on Longhorn Server and use the new technology that is part of Longhorn, such as the Windows Communication Foundation (formerly code-named Indigo), which facilitates communications between applications and Web services. Although no additional specifics were provided, Microsoft indicated Centro will be an integrated IT infrastructure solution that includes the following next-generation features:
