Note, Mar. 4, 2005: In the initial publication of this article on Feb. 21, 2005, we mistakenly reported that John Frederiksen had been promoted from general manager of technical strategy and architecture to vice president. Frederiksen still serves in the capacity of general manager.

Since Dec. 2004, Microsoft has promoted several new vice presidents and changed the duties of some others. For an updated view of Microsoft’s organization, see the Mar. 2005 Directions on Microsoft OrgChart (updated online).

The changes are as follows:

David Hemler was appointed as president of the Canadian subsidiary, replacing Frank Clegg who stepped down in January. Hemler reports to Bill Veghte, vice president of North American sales and marketing. Hemler was formerly a vice president within the U.S. subsidiary, responsible for sales and marketing of Microsoft technologies and business solutions to small and midmarket businesses in the central United States.

Lane Sorgen was promoted to regional vice president, taking Hemler’s old job as vice president, Small and Midmarket Solutions and Partners, Central Region. Sorgen was previously a general manager responsible for small and midmarket business customers and partners in the Midwest area (WI, IL, and IN).
