Analyst ReportConfiguration Manager 2007 SP2 Ships
A second service pack for Configuration Manager 2007, Microsoft’s enterprise systems management product, was released in Oct. 2009. In addition to bug fixes, the service pack adds support for the latest Windows versions and service packs, improves Configuration Manager’s ability to work with Intel wireless and power management technology, extends management capability for 64-bit systems, and delivers better performance for streaming software and virtualized applications from a central site, particularly to branch offices.
New OS Support, Improved Features
Configuration Manager (formerly Systems Management Server, or SMS) keeps track of what computer hardware and software is installed on PCs and servers on an organization’s network, and distributes and updates software to those computers. The current version, Configuration Manager 2007, was released in Nov. 2007 and updated with a service pack (SP1) and interim or R2 release during 2008.
Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 is an update to both Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and Configuration Manager 2007 R2. While no new features have been added, SP2 has several improvements to existing features.
