  • Four new service brands include security, identity management, compliance, and privacy management capabilities.
  • To a small degree, the branding of a service helps clarify what it does, but they are not sold or licensed uniformly.
  • Brand families are evolving and changing, with new services arriving and licensing costs increasing.

Beginning with Microsoft Defender, Microsoft began organizing security, compliance, and other infrastructure-related services into brand families. Purview, Priva, and Entra are brands that followed later, delivering value-add services for compliance, privacy, and identity management, respectively. However, none of the brands are sold as complete suites. Their respective features are sold and licensed separately, although some are included in Microsoft 365 E5 suites. Organizations need to carefully assess the growing number of services individually to determine which they need to add on to their Microsoft online infrastructure. These brands have been rapidly expanding in footprint and costs. Understanding the intent of these four brands can help customers make better licensing decisions.
