Microsoft has retired several identity components recently.

As Microsoft’s hosted identity strategy has begun to center around Azure Active Directory (AAD), Microsoft has discontinued several previously available synchronization tools that provided federation with AAD and third-party identity systems.

Feature Description Status
AAD Sync Microsoft’s second on-premises tool to synchronize data from Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) on-premises to the Microsoft-hosted AAD. Deprecated, and support ended Apr. 2017. Customers should now be using AAD Connect.
