The Desktop Optimization Pack, a subscription-based suite of tools for managing PCs, has been updated to add features and allow organizations to manage Windows 8 on a Windows Server 2012 infrastructure. Major changes to the Application Virtualization application-deployment technology will impact customers since the new package format is incompatible with previous packages. The addition of User Experience Virtualization allows user state to roam to give the user the same experience across multiple devices, and an update to the BitLocker administration tool allows rapid deployment of encrypted disks.

The Desktop Optimization Pack (DOP, which Microsoft calls MDOP) is a set of eight PC virtualization and management utilities available to companies on a subscription basis. The latest update, Desktop Optimization Pack 2012, was released in Nov. 2012 and includes updates to support Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and other changes.
