Dynamics AX 2012 delivers a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform that simplifies customization and relies more heavily on widely used Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server. Dynamics AX is Microsoft’s primary ERP product for midsize and large organizations. Improving customization will reduce Dynamics AX implementation costs and help keep installations in sync with an organization’s business, while leveraging common Microsoft technologies will aid staffing and operations in Microsoft IT shops. However, organizations need to keep up with changes in Microsoft infrastructure, and customers on older versions of Dynamics AX have a tricky transition ahead.

A Platform and Components for Global Businesses

Dynamics AX is Microsoft’s high-end ERP product, aimed at midmarket companies operating in multiple countries as well as business units in large companies. It is sold worldwide and is the fastest growing of Microsoft’s four ERP products. It is also the only ERP product that Microsoft is expanding to new industries: over the last two years, Microsoft has built or bought Dynamics AX extensions for process manufacturing, retail, professional services, and public sector organizations.
