Dynamics GP 2013 R2, released on June 1, 2014, is the most recent update of Microsoft’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for midsized organizations. R2 delivers new business functionality and administrative capabilities but deprecates some longstanding components. Organizations may face a significant migration effort to deploy R2, which could require desktop updates, rewriting custom applications, and user training.

Directional Changes Established

Dynamics GP 2013 R2 delivers significant directional changes to the product, including the following:

A new workflow engine deprecates and will eventually replace the existing SharePoint-based Business Portal, which is a self-service data entry and reporting interface for users without a Dynamics GP client. Workflows included in R2 support approvals for timecards, project timesheets, purchase requisitions, and purchase orders. Remaining workflows will migrate to the new engine in future releases, which will eventually remove Dynamics GP’s dependency on SharePoint and could help lower implementation and maintenance costs.
