Analyst ReportEndpoint Protection Joins System Center
System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (formerly Forefront Endpoint Protection) became available at the same time as System Center 2012 products, including Configuration Manager. Endpoint Protection is Microsoft’s software for protecting the Windows OS and file system against viruses, worms, Trojans, and other malware. The two products offer better integrated setup, management, and reporting. Although the branding has changed for Endpoint Protection, its functions remain the same.
Rebranded and Better Integration
Endpoint Protection (previously named Forefront Client Security) protects Windows PCs and servers against viruses, worms, Trojans, adware, and spyware. It uses behavior monitoring, network traffic inspection, and heuristics to improve real-time protection. Endpoint Protection consists of client agents that run on Windows PCs and servers and a central management server for agent deployment, distribution of security signature updates to the agents, and reporting. It cannot scan application server databases such as those used by Exchange, SharePoint, and Communications Server, which are covered by other Microsoft products.
