Analyst ReportEnterprise-Focused Features in Windows 11 23H2 Update
- Windows 11 23H2, the latest annualized version of Windows, has a few features that are important to organizations.
- The version begins the rolling introduction of Copilot in Windows and features that may change how users authenticate with applications in the future.
- The annual Windows 11 version also highlights that Windows 10 only has approximately two years of support remaining.
Although Windows 11 23H2 is the latest annualized version of Windows, it does not contain significant changes from the previous release. This is because Microsoft continues to release intermittent updates throughout the year. It also opens the 36-month support window for Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise and Education editions, and 24-month support window for Home and Pro editions.
Windows Client Timeline
Windows 11 23H2 is the current supported version of the Windows client OS. (For an illustration of supported versions of the Windows Client OS, see Windows Client Timeline.) More important than the release of a new annual version of Windows 11 is the reality that organizations only have approximately two years of support remaining on Windows 10. Windows 10 22H2 will only be supported until Oct. 2025. Although Windows Copilot may be made available on Windows 10 before that OS leaves support, this is more likely a sign of Microsoft’s desire to get Windows Copilot broadly distributed than an indication that Windows 10 will be updated beyond Windows 10 22H2.
