Exchange Online, a Microsoft-hosted messaging and collaboration service based on Exchange Server, regularly receives new features, most of which are later offered in on-premises Exchange software. Updates in the last year have expanded the service’s Web collaboration capabilities, delivering group reviewing and editing capabilities for Office documents. Enhancements to e-mail capabilities, particularly for the browser-based client, security, and spam filtering, have also been delivered. Some additions suggest that the service may be used in the future to drive more forms of collaboration other than e-mail, such as social networking.
