Forefront Protects SharePoint 2010
Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint, the latest version of Microsoft’s antimalware product for SharePoint Server, offers protection for the newest SharePoint technologies and extensive filtering options that give administrators the ability to prevent malware and inappropriate content on SharePoint servers. Forefront 2010 for SharePoint also improves scanning for large files and adds administrative options for selectively scanning SharePoint sites on a scheduled or on-demand basis. The product can protect both SharePoint 2010 and 2007 technologies.
Protection from Dangerous Documents
The Forefront line of products is used primarily to detect malware such as viruses, worms, spyware, spam, and inappropriate or dangerous content and eliminate these items from servers, networks, or users’ computers. (For a description of Forefront for application servers, see the sidebar “What Forefront Products Do“.)
Forefront for SharePoint is typically used to scan documents on a company’s SharePoint installation. It scans document content and attachments and can delete, quarantine, or repair files found to contain malware and alert administrators or users about actions taken. Forefront administrators can tailor a variety of notification options and actions to take when a suspect file is detected. Like Forefront for Exchange and Forefront for Communications Server, the other Forefront products based on Antigen (acquired from Sybari Software in 2005), Forefront for SharePoint includes multiple antivirus and antispyware engines and can download new signature files from Microsoft hourly.
