To kick off the third year of Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing initiative, Chief Software Architect Bill Gates promised in his keynote address at the annual RSA Security Conference in Feb. 2005 to continue to address the security, privacy, and reliability of Microsoft’s products. Trustworthy Computing has inspired improvements, but the monthly updates for February nevertheless included a large number of important and critical patches, and Gates offered few details about the promised improvements, such as a new version of Internet Explorer (IE) and new antivirus products.

Trustworthy Promises

Gates told the RSA conference about Microsoft’s progress on security-related improvements to products and services, such as Windows XP SP2, and announced the following:

  • Windows Rights Management Services SP1, an update to the company’s document and message protection technology, is currently in beta and planned for 2005
  • An Enterprise Edition for Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA)
