  • GitHub Copilot Workspace, in limited preview, provides AI assistance to speed software development for updates, features, and entire solutions.
  • It could save time, optimize planning, and improve the results of development teams.
  • Pricing, packaging, and a general availability date have not been announced, although it may arrive by the end of 2024.

GitHub Copilot Workspace is a new mode of GitHub Copilot that applies AI to a broader scope of developer work. Developers can use the tool on existing projects or when planning new ones. The technology could also speed developer training, improve developer skills, and lower the barrier of entry for new developers.

What Is GitHub Copilot Workspace?

GitHub Copilot Workspace is a generative AI tool that uses the GPT-4 Turbo large language model (LLM). It generates plans, steps, and code based on a natural language description of the problem provider by a developer, saving the time it would take to manually create these items while potentially including elements that the developer might have missed. It can be used to address a single code check-in, a feature, or an entire solution.
