  • Container-based “hybrid” Logic Apps deployments running outside of Azure now leverage Azure Container Apps (ACA) instead of Azure App Service.
  • This could indicate new attention from Microsoft for hybrid Logic Apps, a technology that has been in preview for more than three years.
  • This new deployment model will likely require configuration and/or code changes for on-premises Logic Apps, since the previous Azure App Service-based model is no longer supported.
  • Hybrid Logic Apps and ACA on-premises technologies remain in preview, which means costs and underlying technology could still be subject to further changes.

A hybrid deployment of Logic Apps managed by Azure Arc allows customers to run workflow-based applications locally in order to support predictable application latency, handle disconnected operations, and/or comply with regulatory requirements. For example, a customer may need an order management application using EDI/X12 to run locally at a warehouse for improved timeliness. Although the hybrid capability has long been in an extended preview, Microsoft’s recently announced change to leverage ACA for hybrid Logic Apps could simplify deployment and indicate Microsoft’s intent to move the capability toward general availability.
