Analyst ReportHyper-V Recovery Manager Aids Replication for DR
A new tool can help administrators set up and maintain virtual machine (VM) replication from one site to another. Hyper-V Recovery Manager runs in Windows Azure and provides an interface to System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) running on-premises at customer sites. The tool can monitor service availability and orchestrate recovery in the event of a service outage or a disaster. Hyper-V Recovery Manager is only available by subscription and costs US$16 per month for each covered VM. (Discounts are available.)
Aiding Disaster Recovery
Windows Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager (HRM) can form part of an organization’s disaster recovery (DR) plan. HRM is a service hosted on Azure and can be used to protect Hyper-V VMs running on servers with VMM 2012 SP1 or VMM 2012 R2. HRM monitors and coordinates continuous, asynchronous replication of each VM from a primary customer site to a secondary customer site over the customer’s intranet using Windows Server Hyper-V Replica. Hyper-V Replica is a feature introduced with Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 that provides hardware-, storage-, and workload-agnostic replication of VMs for DR. HRM monitors for changes, such as VM migration or additions of new clusters, and it automatically configures VM replication if needed.
