Analyst ReportIdentity Manager 2016 Controls Privileged Access
Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 offers significant new features to reduce threats from privileged insiders, simplify management of identities for Microsoft cloud services, and take advantage of recent versions of Windows, Windows Server, and other Microsoft software. Identity Manager (previously called Forefront Identity Manager) synchronizes user accounts and other identity data across directories and helps issue and maintain smart cards and other credentials. Unlike its predecessor, Identity Manager 2016 will run on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Identity Manager Overview
Identity Manager maintains and synchronizes user identity data, such as group memberships and addresses, across all the applications and OS services that use the data. Identity Manager also handles smart cards, digital certificates, and other types of tokens for secure authentication. A key identity management task for Identity Manager has been synchronization between the Windows Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and business applications, such as human resources and Web site user databases. Identity Manager also connects to the Microsoft-hosted Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) service to help customers synchronize identity information with many Microsoft online services, such as Office 365 and Intune.
