  • The Visual Studio IntelliCode extension uses machine learning to help developers write and review code.
  • The extension could reduce development time and effort and improve code consistency and maintainability.
  • The extension currently works with C# and Python code only and is still a preview.

IntelliCode, which debuted in May 2018, is an extension to Visual Studio (VS) and VS Code that enhances the IntelliSense code completion feature. The VS version can also infer coding style and formatting rules from existing projects to help enforce them in new code. Additional features such as code review assistance and code improvement suggestions are planned. IntelliCode could speed and improve organizations’ development processes, but the early preview has limitations.

IntelliSense, Coding Convention Features in Preview

The VS IntelliCode preview currently offers two features: IntelliSense code-completion enhancements and creation of an inferred EditorConfig style and formatting rules file.
