Introduction
Office 365 is a set of subscription plans that combine Microsoft-hosted services, such as Exchange Online e-mail, with on-premises software, such as the Office desktop suite and Office applications for iPad.
Office 365 subscription plans include one or more of the following components:
- Exchange Online, a messaging and collaboration service based on Exchange Server 2013 that also incorporates the Exchange Online Protection filtering service
- Exchange Online Archiving, which enables organizations to centrally maintain Microsoft-hosted archives of e-mail and other Exchange Online or Exchange Server content for legal discovery, backup, and other purposes
- SharePoint Online, a service for document sharing (including a component called OneDrive for Business), Web-based collaboration, and other functions based on SharePoint Server 2013
- Lync Online, an instant messaging, presence, and Web conferencing service based on Lync Server 2013
- Office 365 ProPlus, client-side software similar
