Analyst ReportIntune and Configuration Manager—Better Together?
- Configuration Manager and Intune endpoint management capabilities increasingly overlap, but the functionality is not identical.
- Co-management through the unified console helps customers realize the benefits of both.
- Customers need to understand their management scenarios to determine where each management approach makes the most sense.
As Configuration Manager and Intune increasingly become intertwined, customers need to consider the capabilities of Configuration Manager, Intune, and their converged co-management console. Customers managing Windows systems are most likely to find value in client management using the shared console for the foreseeable future.
Management Direction Depends on Device Scenarios
Customers trying to plan for the future need to understand the benefits and limitations of Microsoft’s two endpoint management technologies:
- Configuration Manager
- Intune
The decision may not be as straightforward as one or the other, however. Most customers will likely find that a combination of the two is warranted, depending on the endpoint needing management. Customers who decide to use both may find significant benefits with co-management, which uses a single console that unifies the management of clients connected to either or both systems, and leaves both Configuration Manager and Intune in-place to provide co-management and actually perform the management tasks.
