The first service pack for Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006, Microsoft’s firewall, virtual private networking, and content-caching product, was released in July 2008. In addition to bug fixes, the service pack enhances troubleshooting and configuration. Support for Windows Server 2008 and 64-bit servers will come only with the next major update, which is expected in the first half of 2009.

SP1 Additions

ISA Server is Microsoft’s edge security and content-caching gateway, which provides firewall, virtual private networking, and caching services for secure connections to the Internet.

ISA Server 2006 SP1 adds several new features.

Configuration change tracking. Changes to the configuration of ISA Server policies can be saved to a log file so that administrators can review change history. This can be useful for troubleshooting (for example, finding a configuration change that caused the virtual private network to stop working) or for audits of compliance with company policies.
