Analyst ReportManaging Windows Version Updates and Patches
- Organizations can use Windows Update for Business to centrally manage updates to devices running Windows 10.
- Although Microsoft controls much of the update process, customers should manage timing of updates, such as setting a deadline for all updates to be completed or pausing updates that are causing problems.
- Centralized management is key to successfully managing internal pilot and deployment to assure smooth and timely deployment of updates.
Windows Update for Business (WUfB) uses Microsoft’s uniform update platform (UUP) and several Windows services to upgrade and update Windows 10 devices. Centralized management of the update process helps organizations reduce the time and cost of piloting (evaluating or testing), deploying, and monitoring update status. This includes balancing the organization’s need to get updates deployed in a timely manner to reduce the chance of vulnerabilities being exploited, without disrupting critical business systems.
