Microsoft Defender for DevOps was quietly discontinued in Nov. 2023. The service, which never reached general availability, was intended to be made available as one of the Defender for Cloud services, each of which are licensed individually. Microsoft Defender for DevOps offered features to help organizations maintain security over their DevOps process, regardless of where the resources reside. This set of features included management of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates to secure containers in a uniform manner and vulnerability scans of code, secrets, and open source software. A preview of Microsoft Defender for DevOps was first announced in early 2023 and quietly retired during Microsoft’s Ignite conference in Nov. 2023. However, some DevOps security reporting features are now available through Azure’s paid tier of cloud security posture management (CSPM) capabilities. More details about Defender for Cloud’s DevOps capabilities for CSPM are at https://learn.microsoft.com/azure/defender-for-cloud/quickstart-onboard-devops.
