Analyst ReportMicrosoft Online Services Enhanced
The Microsoft Online Services received technical updates and improvements for channel partners in summer 2009. Microsoft Online offers Microsoft-hosted installations of Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and other applications to organizations. The updates enhance capacity and open some services to Outlook 2003, while the channel enhancements could bring more partners to the services and give customers more choice for purchasing. They also demonstrate one of the principle advantages of software-as-a-service: A quicker pace of improvement than Microsoft can deliver with its on-premises software.
Microsoft-Hosted Business Applications and Services
Microsoft Online Services include Microsoft-hosted installations of the following server applications:
- Exchange Server
- SharePoint Server
- Communications Server
These three services come in two editions: Standard services run on shared (multitenant) hardware for organizations of up to about 20,000 seats, while Dedicated services use hardware dedicated to a single customer, for customers who need more customized configurations and who typically have 5,000 seats or more.
