- Microsoft Purview is a family of legal and regulatory compliance services available in Microsoft 365 suites.
- Purview services are only licensed as a part of a suite, not freestanding like Defender services.
- The services must be licensed for all users that could benefit from them, even unintentionally.
- To prevent wasted spending, do not purchase Purview licenses until the organization is ready to deploy and manage them.
Microsoft Purview is a family of both legal and regulatory compliance services that must be licensed as a part of Microsoft 365 E5, E5 Compliance, or E5 Compliance mini suites, discussed below. Sometimes these mini suites are referred to by Directions as subsuites because they are included in the Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance suite itself. (Note that no Purview services are available stand-alone; they are available only in a suite of some type.)
