The new continuous release and support model adopted by many Microsoft products has resulted in Microsoft creating a new support policy category. Initially the new Modern policy addresses a limited set of products and services such as System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch) and the .NET Core, which all use the new continuous release and servicing model. Microsoft states the new Modern policy will not be retroactively applied to existing products currently covered by the on-premises policy; however, the definition of products and services covered by the Modern policy’s description could easily apply to Windows 10 and many other products.

Under the new Modern support life-cycle policy, Microsoft will provide support for covered products as long as all the following apply:
