  • New tools and capabilities provision Windows development workstations and centralize task management to get developers started quickly and focused on routine activities.
  • Dev Drive is a new Windows storage volume type that can speed local source file access and build times.
  • The offerings, which are in early preview, only work with Windows and emphasize (but do not require) GitHub and Microsoft tools.

Several new offerings that help developers use Windows workstations (whether building applications for Windows or other environments) were announced in May 2023. These can be used with the recently launched Microsoft Dev Box and GitHub Codespaces services. The offerings continue Microsoft’s push to make Windows the best workstation choice for developers.

Dev Environment Tools Proliferating, Most Are Windows Only
