Azure Information Protection (AIP) Premium P2, currently in preview, can automatically protect or warn users of potential data loss issues based on document and e-mail contents. AIP is a rebranding of the previously available Azure Rights Management Premium hosted service. The new AIP tier requires additional Per-User subscription charges and currently offers support for a limited number of device platforms.

Azure Information Protection Fundamentals

AIP Premium (previously Azure Rights Management Premium) is a hosted service that allows users to encrypt e-mails, files, and other types of business content in order to prevent access by unauthorized users. Unlike other protection mechanisms, such as access control lists (ACLs), which typically control who can read and change files stored in a file system, AIP protection travels with the content and can control how the content is accessed across a range of devices. This allows AIP to continue to control access even if the content is moved to a computer that is outside an organization’s control.
