New GitHub Copilot Free Tier Offers Limited Usage

A Free tier of GitHub Copilot is available as of Dec. 2024, which could help teams and individuals evaluate and use the Copilot in limited scenarios before purchasing higher tiers, which range from US$10 to US$39 per user per month. The former Individual tier has been renamed to Pro, and the Business and Enterprise tiers remain available. GitHub Copilot can streamline developer workflows with AI-based assistance, saving time and helping developers produce better code. The Free tier lacks some features of the other tiers, and it has usage limitations that the other tiers do not have. For example, code suggestions are limited to 2,000 per month, and chat interactions are limited to 50 per month; the latter limit is more likely to be reached under typical use. Furthermore, the Free tier is available only in Visual Studio Code and the GitHub portal, the code review feature (in preview) is not included, and only two large language models (LLMs) are supported.
