Four new Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) guides can help organizations implement Microsoft’s infrastructure products. The new guides cover Operations Manager, Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), Internet Information Services (IIS), and Network Access Protection (NAP) and bring the total number of guides to 11. The IPD guides complement product documentation and help IT workers during infrastructure planning by defining major technical and business decisions and outlining available architectural options.

The new guides are as follows:

The System Center Operations Manager 2007 guide helps administrators design systems for monitoring servers and other IT infrastructure components. It describes steps needed for planning an Operations Manager installation, including security strategy, placement of and roles of Operations Manager servers, design of the notification system, and how to select the management packs and connectors to be used with Operations Manager. Since using Operations Manager in large enterprises and integrating it with other system management tools is quite complex, organizations should consider using planning services from Microsoft or third parties in conjunction with this IPD.
