A new Planner app for Teams, replacing the “Tasks by Planner and To Do” app for Teams, began rolling out to general availability in Apr. 2024. The new Planner app provides a unified interface for viewing and editing tasks, plans, and projects from multiple sources including Project for the Web, To Do, and the existing Planner service.

The new Planner app for Teams is the first step in a repositioning of Planner and other task and project management services announced in late 2023. Later in 2024, a new Planner application for the Web will provide a similar unified interface for task and project management across Planner, Project for the Web, and To Do without the need to leverage Teams. For the time being, existing clients for task and project data in those services, such as Web clients, mobile apps, or integrations with Outlook, remain available with no timeline announced for their retirement. Similarly, the underlying task and project data and services are unchanged; the new Planner app provides a new unified interface to the existing data. Project Online, Project Server, and Project desktop are not impacted by the new Planner; there is no change in name or user experience for those offerings.
