Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC), new client-side software for 32-bit Windows desktops, improves the ability for workstations to connect to terminal servers running the Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 versions of Terminal Services (TS). Terminal Services allow Windows-based applications to run on a server machine while receiving their input and displaying their output on separate client PCs or Windows terminals. TSAC adds the ability for users to access applications running on a TS server via a browser, improves the ability for administrators to use terminal services to remotely manage multiple server machines, and simplifies the process of deploying “thin client” software onto corporate desktops.

TSAC is the base for all Terminal Services client development going forward. Microsoft will cease to issue updates to the older client code shipped with Windows 2000 or Terminal Server 4.0—so customers will have to install the TSAC client code to avail themselves of future fixes and feature improvements. TSAC is available for download and will be included on the upcoming Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 CD-ROM.
