  • Microsoft offers specially priced and certified Office 365 plans for U.S. government customers and businesses that work with them.
  • The plans offer three levels of certification for isolation, security, and data handling.
  • Due to longer certification periods, features in U.S. Government plans lag those of commercial plans.

Office 365 plans for U.S. government entities deliver Office 365 services with physical isolation, security, and data-handling standards certifications that are not offered on commercial Office 365 plans. These offerings can help eligible U.S. government agencies and their approved commercial partners deploy Office 365 and share data while staying compliant with regulatory requirements. However, some online services available in commercial Office 365 plans are not yet available in the analogous government plans, and the arrival of those services in Office 365 for U.S. Government is not entirely predictable or assured.

A more recent version of this report, updated to reflect licensing and roadmap changes, can be found at “Office 365 Plans for U.S. Government” and the June 2020 Update.
