Office Accounting 2008, an update to Microsoft’s entry-level accounting package, improves data import and supports budgeting and forecasting, closing some gaps that frustrated adopters of earlier versions. The product also gets a Spanish language edition and makes its debut in the United Kingdom, where it will compete with products from Sage, a leading vendor of accounting software in Europe, and with Microsoft’s own Dynamics Entrepreneur Solution, a new entry-level business management package based on the Dynamics NAV enterprise resource planning application. The price of the product’s Professional Edition has also been increased by US$50.

Basic Accounting for Small Companies

Office Accounting 2008 is the follow-up release to Office Accounting 2007, which shipped early in 2007. The product offers basic double-entry accounting with a simple, customizable interface, wizards for accessing common financial management functions, and integration with Office. Office Accounting comes in two editions: a Professional Edition that targets established companies with up to 25 employees, and a free Express Edition intended for very small businesses, such as home-based businesses and those operating without accounting software.
