Analyst ReportOffice and Browser Version Support with Office 365
Some PCs need Office or browser upgrades soon to retain support with Office 365. This timeline shows likely support periods with Office 365 for the Office 2010, 2013, and 2016 suites and for the Internet Explorer (IE) and Edge browsers. Unsupported clients will often work with Office 365 services, and Microsoft will not deliberately block them, but clients need supported software to be eligible for break/fix or other support from Microsoft personnel. The Office 365 ProPlus and Office 365 Business subscription suites follow a different support life-cycle and are not affected by these policies.
Office application versions are eligible for support with Office 365 only while the application version is in the Mainstream support phase. Office 2010 leaves Mainstream support Oct. 13, 2015, so PCs running that version will soon require upgrades to Office 2013 or the next version, Office 2016. Clients must also move to the latest Office service pack within roughly one year of the service pack’s release. For example, Office 2013 clients had to move to SP1 by Apr. 14, 2015, to retain Office 365 support.
