The first service pack (SP1) for 2010 versions of the Office, SharePoint, Project, and Visio products, delivering enhancements as well as stability and security fixes for both clients and servers, shipped in July 2011. The service pack may help trigger a wave of deployments for customers who often wait for the first service pack of an application before deploying, providing revenue for Microsoft, opportunities for partners, and customer interest in Office 365. Organizations should ensure that they begin testing and updating all affected applications to keep systems secure and up-to-date.

Desktop Applications Updated

SP1 updates are available for all desktop applications included in Office 2010 suites, their desktop file viewers, as well as Project 2010, SharePoint Designer 2010, and Visio 2010, which ship separately.

SP1 includes many small feature enhancements. For example, PowerPoint Presenter View now displays slides on a secondary monitor if available. Conflict resolution has been improved when coauthoring documents with Word, and the Office Proofing Tools offer better suggestions for users of the Canadian English, European Portuguese, French, and Swedish language versions. Project Professional can also now synchronize scheduled tasks with SharePoint task lists.
