Office Subscription Bundle Launches

Equipt, a subscription-based bundle that includes Office Home and Student Edition, OneCare, and other software, will be available in mid-July for US$69.99 per year. The price of the bundle is cheaper than some competing security and PC maintenance suites, and the suite could become popular if consumers prove willing to purchase Office on a subscription basis. However, Equipt will initially be offered only through a single retail partner, Circuit City, leaving OEMs with no comparable offering.

Competitive Price

First announced in Apr. 2008 under the code name Albany, Equipt consists of the following:

Office 2007 Home and Student (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote)
The Windows Live OneCare security and maintenance suite
The Office Live Workspace plug-in (which makes it easier to save files to an online repository on Office Live)
Several Windows Live clients that are otherwise available as free downloads (Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery, Toolbar, and Writer).
