Competency requirements for Microsoft partner companies will be updated beginning in May 2012, and a new system of skills certifications for individuals has been announced. Partner companies gain Gold or Silver competency designations from Microsoft by employing minimum numbers of personnel who have passed certification exams, among other requirements. These partners receive sales and marketing assistance, free software, and other benefits from Microsoft. Partners should review changes to competency requirements and certifications and ensure that they can maintain current competencies and are on track for any additional competencies they plan to pursue.

Planned changes to competency requirements and benefits are outlined in a “Microsoft Partner Network Competency Roadmap” updated in Apr. 2012, for example:
