In concert with the phaseout of four Forefront-branded antimalware products, the Enterprise Client Access License (CAL) Suite’s contents are shifting and the Forefront Protection Suite is being discontinued. Both suites licensed these four antimalware products, and while existing suite owners as of Nov. 30, 2012 can continue to use the products through 2015, customers must eventually transition to third-party replacements, or migrate to solutions with similar built-in functionality, such as Office 365. Also, some products no longer licensed by the suites continue to be actively sold, and existing suite customers eventually must acquire separate licenses to continue using them.

Four Forefront Products Phased Out

The following four Forefront-branded products are being phased out:

  • Forefront Security for Office Communications Server (scans instant messaging traffic)
  • Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint Server (scans documents)
