Power Pages: Benefits and Risks

• Power Pages is a low- to no-code platform for building simple to moderately complex Web sites that are typically for external-facing use.

Power Pages is a component of the Power Platform set of services, which are a part of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. These services, which also include Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, and Power BI, focus on simplifying the implementation of line-of-business (LOB) processes by enabling makers (also called citizen developers) to build them.

Power Pages allows the creation and hosting of some types of Web sites (typically externally facing) without expensive development resources. However, Power Pages does not address building all types of Web sites, and customers should consider the risks of adopting it. Power Pages functionality was formerly offered as Power Apps portals. Its focus on external users and Web technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) differentiates it from the other types of Power Apps apps, so Microsoft split it off into the separate Power Pages offering within Power Platform.
