Analyst ReportPower Platform Analytics Can Help Fine-Tune Licensing
- Microsoft is providing improved Power Platform telemetry and analytics, which customers can use to monitor their line-of-business apps.
- Analytics can help organizations better monitor Power Platform use, plan future licensing needs, and improve their licensing negotiation position by using data similar to what Microsoft uses.
- Improved telemetry also means that Power Platform limits are enforced more strictly, so customers need to be more careful about service overuse.
- Not all Power Platform services offer analytics yet.
Telemetry is data that provides insight into the usage of apps and services. The raw telemetry data can then be used for analytics, which helps administrators understand usage and performance trends, optimize usage, and plan future licensing needs. Power Platform increasingly offers built-in analytics capabilities, though they are still somewhat limited.
What Types of Analytics Does Power Platform Offer?
Microsoft has long rolled out new Power Platform features while withholding telemetry that could help administrators understand their comprehensive use of the services. Microsoft relaxed Power Platform services usage limits in 2019 in anticipation of delayed analytics, which were designed to enable customers to monitor their own use and avoid hitting hard limits. As more of these analytics have become available, customers should plan for how usage at scale could be affected and how Microsoft could use telemetry when negotiating deals.
