Analyst ReportRecords Management Resource Kit Available
A free resource kit helps SharePoint Server 2007 comply with the important U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2 (DOD 5015) standard for records-management applications. Developed with partner Applied Information Sciences (AIS), the toolkit’s release comes eight months after a test certified that SharePoint met the requirements of the standard. Despite the wait, Microsoft recommends that customers work with one of a short list of trained partners to deploy the resource kit, which suggests that implementing a successful DOD 5015—compliant records-management solution with SharePoint is considerably more involved than installing a free add-on.

Among other capabilities, SharePoint Server 2007 helps records managers identify and tag an organization’s records, create and manage record repositories, and configure the policies (such as retention periods) by which records are managed.
