Analyst ReportRemoteFX Improves Remote Desktop Protocol
RemoteFX technology removes an important barrier to centrally managed desktops. Included in the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, RemoteFX renders graphics on a server and efficiently sends the rendered images to remote computers for display. This enables a better user experience for users running graphic-intensive applications, such as those that use DirectX 3D in a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment. Although many organizations look to VDI as a way to reduce the cost of supporting desktop applications, deploying RemoteFX may require purchasing new servers with qualified graphics processing units (GPUs) and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)-compatible CPUs.
Remote Desktop Limits Graphical Applications
The goal of RemoteFX is to make it undetectable to a user whether a graphical application is executing on his local computer or on a remote centrally managed desktop. RemoteFX will allow an organization to deploy centrally managed desktops to users of typical desktop and line-of-business applications as well as users who need to run applications that output high-resolution, high-fidelity, or 3D graphical images.
